4 Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. 2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. 3 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. 4 For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.
5 There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 one God and Father of all,
who is over all, in all, and living through all.
7 However, he has given each one of us a special gift through the generosity of Christ. 8 That is why the Scriptures say,
“When he ascended to the heights,
he led a crowd of captives
and gave gifts to his people.”
9 Notice that it says “he ascended.” This clearly means that Christ also descended to our lowly world. 10 And the same one who descended is the one who ascended higher than all the heavens, so that he might fill the entire universe with himself.
Ephesians 4:1-10
Dear God, I think the part of this passage that resonated with me this morning is trying to live up to my calling. To be humble. To be authentic. To be gracious and merciful. To be loving. To be serving. To be prayerful. To be worshipful.
I will be meeting with three other nonprofit clinics like ours today who are in different communities. We all operate differently. The four of us as leaders have different personalities. The clinics have different ways of operating. We are unique in how we do our work, but I think we are all trying to do the best work we can. Two of the leaders are new to their jobs, being there less than a year each. The other has lots of experience in other organizations, but has only been in his job for maybe two and a half years. I’ve been with mine for nearly 21. So in some ways I could go in there with a lot of arrogance, but the truth is that I feel imposter’s syndrome all the time. The truth is that I don’t feel like I have it all together. So help me to be your ambassador of love, mercy, humility, grace, love, and service. Help me to be transparent and vulnerable with them. Help me to point to you.
I also pray for my other meetings today. The day actually has more than I think I can do, but I think the meetings are important. I’m meeting with two local pastors for lunch. Help me to be a source of love and encouragement for them as well. Help me to be vulnerable and humble before them.
And I pray for a health issue I have. I don’t know how serious it is, but I’m honestly not worried. In fact, I almost forgot to pray about it, but I want to pray so that, when it comes out fine, I can give you all the glory.
Father, all glory is yours, now and forever. Help me to represent that well.
I pray this in Jesus and with your Holy Spirit,
Amen
